DC Health Announces New License Renewal Schedule

Important Update: New DC License Renewal Guidelines

In June 2024, DC Health updated its license renewal system to align with each licensee’s birth month. As a result, all licenses, certificates, and registrations issued on or after June 16, 2024, will now expire on the last day of the license holder’s birth month.

What This Means

Current Renewal Cycle
Although this change was implemented mid-cycle, the current renewal period remains unchanged and will conclude for all licensees on July 31, 2025.

  • All current licensees must renew by this date.

  • The current cycle runs from August 1, 2023 – July 31, 2025, and all required continuing education (CE) must be completed within this timeframe.

New Renewal Schedule (Effective After July 31, 2025)
Starting with the next cycle, renewal deadlines will be tied to your birth month and whether you were born in an odd or even year.

Examples:

  • If your birthday is April 8, 1980 (even year), your renewal will be due April 30 of every even year.

  • If your birthday is September 12, 1987 (odd year), your renewal will be due September 30 of every odd year.

Transition Period: CE Reuse

To ease the transition, you may reuse CEs from the current cycle—if they fall within your new CE reporting window.

Example:
A licensee born on April 8, 1980, will next renew by April 30, 2026. Their new CE window is April 30, 2024 – April 30, 2026.
Any CE hours completed between April 30, 2024, and July 31, 2025, may be reused for the next cycle.
