The Metro DC Chapter is one of 55 chapters of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the largest association of professional social workers in the United States. They also serve clients in every DC ward and work setting, as well as in the DC metropolitan area such as Northern Virginia and nearby Maryland.

Congress Enacts NASW Metro DC Coalition Bill to End Child Marriage in the District

It's official! Child marriage under the age of 18 (no exceptions) is no longer legal in the nation's capital, thanks to the chapter's coalition advocacy with Unchained At Last and other allied groups. Congress has enacted legislation Councilmember Brooke Pinto introduced, and our joint efforts led to passage in City Council, then to Mayor Muriel Bowser's signature.

Unchained At Last received our 2025 @NASWDCMetro Public Citizen Award recently.

DC becomes the second territory to ban child marriage, along with 13 states--all working to protect the 9.5 million girls who live in those states and DC.
