The Metro DC Chapter is one of 55 chapters of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the largest association of professional social workers in the United States. Our nearly 1,000 members serve all populations, including children, adolescents, families, older adults, immigrants, LGBTQ individuals, and others. They also serve clients in every DC ward and work setting, as well as in the DC metropolitan area such as Northern Virginia and nearby Maryland.

DC General Election Results Include Re-Election of NASW Metro DC-Endorsed Candidate Robert White, Three Electoral Votes for Harris-Walz

Robert White (D), who was endorsed by the NASW Metro DC Council, won his campaign to serve another term as an At-Large City Council Member by a landslide 62% in Tuesday’s General Election.

DC voters also voted for NASW-endorsed candidates Vice President Kamal Harris and Gov. Tim Walz by more than 90% for President and Vice President, respectively.

NASW acknowledges that Donald Trump has been re-elected and will become 47th president of the United States. We are deeply troubled by statements Trump has made regarding immigrants, women, people who are LGBTQIA2S+, and people of color. NASW will challenge any of his policies that harm our nation’s most vulnerable populations. Read the full statement at https://tinyurl.com/yj2dbm2c

Other DC winners were Ankin Jain (D), U.S. Senate; Oye Owokewa (D), U.S. Representative; Eleanor Holmes Norton (D), delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives; Brooke Pinto (D), Ward 2 City Council Member; Janeese Lewis George (D), Ward 4 City Council Member; Wendell Felder (D), Ward 7 City Council Member; and Trayon White Sr., Ward 8 City Council Member.

In addition, voters overwhelmingly passed Initiative 83 to allow ranked-choice voting and permit voters not registered with a political party to vote in their choice of a primary—a dramatic reform of the current electoral system.

Thank you to all social workers who voted, volunteered, and helped get out the vote!
