Virtual Professional Development Opportunities for Social Workers in Aging

As the aging population continues to grow, the need for skilled social workers in the field of gerontology becomes increasingly vital. Recognizing this demand, several national-level professional development programs have been established to enhance the expertise of social workers dedicated to serving older adults. These programs, offered by external organizations in collaboration with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), provide valuable knowledge and skills without geographical or membership restrictions. Moreover, they are free of charge, making them accessible to all interested professionals.

A variety of virtual professional development programs are available to social workers specializing in aging. These programs cover a broad spectrum of topics relevant to gerontological social work, including mental health, elder abuse, caregiving, and the social determinants of health affecting older adults. By participating in these programs, social workers can stay updated on the latest research, best practices, and innovative approaches to supporting the elderly population.
