Earn 3 CEs Learning About “Disasters in Special Populations” May 19

Special populations such as children, older adults, people with disabilities or serious mental illnesses, and cultural and ethnic populations often react differently to disasters due to additional stress reactions and impediments.

You can learn how, why, and what you can do to better serve such clients in recovery by attending a 3-CE NASW Virginia and Metro DC training, “Disasters in Special Populations” (3 CEs), May 19 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EST.

Taught by longtime psychotherapist Ed Geraty, LCSW-C, you’ll discover

  • differences among primary, secondary, and tertiary disaster victims;
  • cultural sensitivity and cultural competencies needed to work with special populations;
  • guiding principles for cultural competence in disaster mental health programs;
  • physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral reactions to disasters; and
  • ways to identify various special populations;

Cost is $60, NASW members (a savings of $18); $78, nonmembers. Want to take advantage of discounted trainings immediately? Join NASW today.

Registration deadline is Thursday, May 16. Visit here to learn more or to register today.
