The Metro DC Chapter is one of 55 chapters of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the largest association of professional social workers in the United States. Our 1,100-plus members serve all populations, including children, adolescents, families, older adults, immigrants, LGBTQ individuals, and others. They also serve clients in every DC ward and work setting, as well as in the DC metropolitan area such as Northern Virginia and nearby Maryland.

NASW Metro DC Joins Rally at SCOTUS Steps to Protect Student Debt Cancellation


On February 28, Andrea Alfaro, a BSW student and social work intern for the NASW Metro DC Chapter, joined borrowers and advocates at the People's Rally for Student Loan Debt Cancellation on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court. While Supreme Court Justices heard testimony challenging President Biden's federal student loan debt relief plan, hundreds of borrowers peacefully rallied outside in favor of debt cancellation. The fate of student debt forgiveness weighs in the balance of six conservative judges who have expressed skepticism over whether the Covid-19 pandemic constitutes the type of emergency that would allow the Executive Branch to cancel wide-scale levels of federal debt.
