It is vital that social workers feel equipped to support survivors no matter where the survivor is on their healing journey. In this workshop, participants will learn the research, theoretical and practical framework for sexual trauma, and evidenced based practices to ensure survivors receive appropriate support.

Intro to “Therapeutic Cognitive Training” Performance meets Mental Health: Tools to enhance youth engagement in therapy through movement and cognitive development.

NASWDC Chapter 0 695

Course Description:

Have you ever struggled to connect with youth or teen clients? Had a client who comes to sessions but there is very little engagement during the session? Or are struggling with numerous client cancelations? We have developed a way to not only reduce each of those issues but to also decrease ADHD, Anxiety, and low self esteem symptoms in youth ages 11-21. Therapeutic Sports/Cognitive training combines the benefits of basic movement, cognitive development and therapeutic activities to create the ideal therapeutic environment for teens and athletes. The skills clients develop through this form of support have led to increased resilience, frustration tolerance, decreased impulsivity, self regulation and behavioral improvements. With the ultimate goal being to decrease cancelations, track progress tangibly, and improve therapeutic alliance between clinician and client. We believe this approach should be in every clinicians tool box.
