Synopsis: Allyship is often discussed as a personal identity or intention, yet ethical allyship requires ongoing reflection, accountability, humility, and action. This interactive workshop explores allyship through the lens of professional ethics, cultural humility, and social work values. Participants will examine common barriers to allyship, explore the impact of power and privilege within helping relationships and organizations, and identify practical strategies for engaging in ethical and accountable allyship across diverse settings. Through discussion, case studies, self-reflection, and real-world application, participants will strengthen their ability to move beyond awareness and toward meaningful action that promotes equity, trust, and professional integrity.
 

Learning Objectives: By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to: 
1. Define ethical allyship and describe its relationship to professional ethics, cultural humility, and social work values.
2. Identify common barriers that can interfere with effective allyship, including defensiveness, assumptions, power dynamics, and unconscious bias.
3. Apply a framework for responding to situations involving inequity, exclusion, or harm within professional and organizational settings.
4. Demonstrate practical strategies for engaging in accountable allyship that promote trust, inclusion, and culturally responsive practice.
