Course Description

This training explores the intersection of professional ethics and anti-oppressive practice across healthcare, behavioral health, child welfare, education, housing, and community-based settings. Participants will examine how power, privilege, bias, and systemic inequities influence service delivery, access to care, and ethical decision-making.

Using an equity-centered and trauma-informed framework, the course addresses ethical challenges related to confidentiality, informed consent, information sharing, interdisciplinary collaboration, professional boundaries, and organizational accountability. Through case-based discussions, participants will strengthen their ability to navigate complex ethical dilemmas while upholding the NASW Code of Ethics and advancing equitable, client-centered practice.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Apply the NASW Code of Ethics to ethical dilemmas that arise across complex service systems.

2. Identify how systemic inequities, bias, power, and privilege influence client outcomes and professional decision-making.

3. Analyze ethical considerations related to confidentiality, informed consent, information sharing, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

4. Utilize anti-oppressive and trauma-informed approaches to promote equitable, client-centered care and minimize harm.

5. Apply an ethical decision-making framework to complex practice scenarios involving competing organizational, legal, and client-centered responsibilities.
