Mirror Work: Uncovering Biases, Blind Spots & the Self Behind the Practice
Every practitioner brings a story into the room—consciously or not. Mirror Work: Uncovering Biases, Blind Spots & the Self Behind the Practice is a deep, reflective session that challenges social workers and healing professionals to examine the parts of themselves that influence their work more than they realize. This session dives into the personal conditioning, inherited beliefs, and survival-based behaviors that often go unexamined but show up in subtle ways when working with clients.
Through guided inquiry, self-reflection, and discussion, participants will begin to differentiate between what is their authentic voice and what was learned out of necessity. This session empowers practitioners to bring more clarity, curiosity, and ethical presence to their work—recognizing that personal growth is not separate from professional integrity.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify internalized beliefs, behaviors, and emotional patterns that may impact therapeutic or professional interactions.
2. Explore the difference between authentic self and learned survival strategies within the context of client work.
3. Increase awareness of personal blind spots and how they may shape biases, triggers, or assumptions.
4. Learn reflective tools and practices to regularly examine and align the “self behind the practice” with ethical, client-centered care.
Upon completion of this course attendees will earn 2.0 Category I Contact Hours.
